WASHINGTON, D.C. (January 17, 2018) – Radiator’s Executive Chef Jonathan Dearden was named Washington D.C.’s “Best Chef on the Block” in the final round of a contest held by DC Refined on Monday. Next month, Chef Jonathan will advance to a national chef competition on ABC’s “The Chew,” where he will represent Washington, D.C. against five other regional winners. Also in February, the Radiator team will offer palm readings on Groundhog Day and shareable cocktails on Valentine’s Day, giving Washingtonians plenty of reasons to skip the winter hibernation!

Chef Jonathan Dearden Wins “Best Chef on the Block” in the DMV

After being selected as one of three finalists in DC Refined’s contest of finding the District’s “Best Chef on the Block,” Chef Jonathan Dearden competed in a live cook-off on Monday, January 15 to make a dish that best represented Washington, D.C. Raised in Sterling, Virginia, Radiator’s executive chef incorporated the familiar flavors of his hometown with a Chesapeake crab cake, accompanied by a half-smoke and potato-apple hash, and finished with an Old Bay remoulade.

“This dish embodies the DMV. There’s an element from each region – Chesapeake crab cake for Maryland, half-smoke for D.C., and potatoes and apples from local Virginia farms. The Old Bay remoulade brings all of the elements together. The remoulade is like the 495 Capital Beltway of the dish,” said Chef Jonathan Dearden.

A panel of judges selected Chef Jonathan’s dish based on taste (75%) and presentation (25%). His winning dish earned him a spot to compete in New York City at the national chef competition on ABC’s “The Chew” as the representative for Washington, D.C.  The air date for this special episode is yet to be announced.
