Learn how a food-safety management system is the foundation for controlling and minimizing your operation’s risk.

Making sure your employees know and understand food safety best practices is important to the health of your customers and the health of your business. Ensuring ongoing education and adherence to a food safety plan starts with a strong food-safety management system.

The 2019 National Food Safety Month theme is “Controlling Risk: The Elements of a Food Safety Management System.” The campaign kicked off Sept. 1, and throughout the month the National Restaurant Association is offering free, downloadable resources to help you reinforce the importance of food safety to all your staff members.

Throughout September, the National Restaurant Association is offering free, downloadable resources to help you reinforce the importance of food safety to your staff members.

Education aids include free training activities, fun quizzes, and great posters you can deploy to reinforce proper food safety practices and procedures in your operations. The campaign will help you drive home how important it is to have an FSMS in place. An FSMS, in combination with other existing, mandated programs, helps ensure employees understand and follow safe food-handling practices as part of their operation’s daily business.

“The Food and Drug Administration’s Risk Factor Study indicates that having a well-developed food safety management system is the strongest predictor that an operation will have fewer occurrences of foodborne illness issues,” said Sherman Brown, the Association’s executive vice president of training and certification. “This year we’re emphasizing the importance of having a solid food safety management system as a framework for keeping guests, employees, and the business safe.”
