Around the World Embassy Open House

May 4, 2019 - 9:00am to 4:00pm

Meet People + See Places + Learn Things + Have Fun!
One of our favorite events of the year - the Around the World Embassy Open House!

More than 40 embassies will open their doors to DC visitors and residents on Saturday, May 4. Participants can travel around the world as they experience the food, art, dance, fashion, and music of different countries - and meet lots of interesting people.

This event is open to the public and no tickets are required. You are also welcome to visit the embassies with members of Washington, DC History & Culture, a non-profit community organization.

The advantage of coming with us is that we’ve participated in this event for the past several years and can guide you through the crowds to visit the best locations. We’ll also hand out our Meetup name stickers so you can meet people, tell who is in our group, and remember the names of your fellow embassy travelers.

Guests are free to come along with us in a “buffet-style” event, visiting the embassies we select (which will be determined at a later date), or venture off on their own since there will be over 40 embassies open. Participants are also free to arrive and depart whenever they like.

Signing up helps us determine attendance and allows you to stay informed of event updates from us via social media and/or email.

We’ll post more event specifics as we get closer to May 4 - the official list of participating embassies is usually published a week or two beforehand.

We’ll also be hosting FREE Massachusetts Avenue / Embassy Row Guided Walking Tours at 6:00 pm, Thursday, May 4, and 6:00 pm, Friday, May 10. We’ll also be participating in the European Union Embassy Open House on Saturday, May 11. Details on these events will be provided separately in the near future.

Tips & Suggestions …..

  • Please be appreciative and respectful of your embassy hosts at all times – visiting an embassy is like being invited into someone’s home.
  • Bring your id and be prepared for potential airport style security screenings
  • Wear comfortable walking shoes
  • Observe traffic signs and signals
  • Free food is often available but is sometimes accompanied by lengthy lines - paid food options with shorter lines are often a good investment to save time
  • Meet People + See Places + Learn Things + Have Fun!
  • All embassies are open from 10am to 4pm, unless otherwise noted (although we arrive an hour early to walk to the embassies, get in line, socialize, etc.)
  • Admission is free. Reservations are not required.
  • Street parking is available but difficult at many embassy locations.
  • Many embassies are within walking distance of the Dupont Circle and Van Ness/UDC Metrorail stations.
  • Embassies on International Drive are larger and often have shorter lines than those on Embassy Row.

Additional Questions: Anything that can’t be answered by the above event description, Google, or common sense please let us know.
