DC Women Who Care

July 15, 2019 - 5:30pm to 7:30pm

Give today. Join on July 15th.

It's hard to imagine the crisis at the border could get worse but it plainly and painfully is. After breaking news over the past few days, the image and reality is clear. We must do all we can. Everyone is welcome to join this amazing group of women from the advocacy and restaurant worlds to raise money and show solidarity.

WHEN: July 15th @ 5:30-7:30pm
WHERE: Cork Wine Bar - 1805 14th St NW, DC
TICKETS >>

If you can't be in attendance, please consider donating and share with your networks.

THE GOALS:
Raise money for lesser known organizations on the front lines of this humanitarian crisis that we need to share the financial love with if we're to put our fingers in the dam the most effectively until accountability in 2020 gets here. And accountability is coming, but not fast enough for those most affected today, like Oscar and Valeria and too many others.

Solidarity. While organizing and people power can move mountains, in moments like this we can feel powerless. A night that has impact AND reminds us that we are not alone in resisting this government that is doing horrific things in Americans’ names is a critical part of keeping the fire burning. It's a battle right now but a reminder that we're in it together is crucial to winning the war.

Angry Tías And Abuelas are superstar activists stepping up in giant ways, they started in the summer of 2018 when 11 women used their own money to visit border bridges after dark, sharing the latest intelligence with migrants and dispensing desperately needed and tangible supplies for families who have been walking for months in some cases. They are now a vast network of Tias and Abuelas on the border trying to reach as many people as possible at bridges and remote areas where immigrants are taking the biggest risks and need the most help.

Kids In Need of Defense (KIND) protects unaccompanied children who enter the US immigration system alone to ensure that no child appears in court without an attorney.

Capitol Area Immigrants’ Rights (CAIR) Coalition. Trumps government is shipping children all over the country under the dark of night, including in the DC area. CAIR focuses on getting and training direct legal representation of adults and children held in the DC area.

Legal defense for immigrant families: Immigrant Defense Project. Increasing access to legal counsel for thousands of immigrants held in detention centers. To achieve this, they are building a broad network of pro bono legal allies to serve the many thousands of detained individuals who would otherwise go unrepresented and training private lawyers with new tactics and strategies to enable them to vigorously defend immigrants facing removal.
