Oyster Riot Old Ebbitt Grill

The Oyster Riot turns 25 this year, and we are celebrating this milestone in a big way.
Join us as we celebrate this year with a new date and a new location:

Saturday, October 26, 2019, at The Bullpen at Nats Park.

The Atrium at the Old Ebbitt Grill where we have hosted the first 24 Riots is in the midst of a year-long renovation, so we are taking the Riot on the road this year! We saw this as an opportunity to do something special and larger to help celebrate the Riot’s 25th birthday.

After an extensive search, we found the perfect spot in The Bullpen at Nats Park!

In addition to all of the oysters and wines you have enjoyed over the years, The Bullpen will also allow us the opportunity to add some more fun elements including a great performance by the world-renowned New Orleans Suspects performing their “Tribal Gold” show.

Other than that – you still get all the elements you love – an all-inclusive oyster, wine, beer and music celebration or as we like to call it – A Riot!

There will be two sessions on Saturday, October 26
Session 1: The Matinee – 1 pm to 4 pm
Session 2: Saturday Night – 7 pm to 10 pm

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What happened to all those oyster shells? Will they be just thrown away?
The oyster shells were sorted and transferred to the Oyster Recovery Partnership. About 180 bushels of shells were collected for their use. Once the shells are aged, they will end up being planted with 1 million baby oysters.

When and where is the Oyster Riot?
The party kicks off at with our matinee from 1:00 – 4:00 PM on Saturday, October 26th and from 7:00-10:00 PM on Saturday night at The Bullpen at Nats Park, https://thebullpendc.com/, 1201 Half St SE, Washington, DC 20003.

What if I can't make the Oyster Riot or I need to give my ticket to someone else?

How do I know if I have tickets? How do I know if my order was confirmed?
All ticket buyers will receive a confirmation email via Eventbrite. If you don’t receive an email, please contact Eventbrite at (877) 435-9849.

What is included in my ticket?
Your ticket includes entrance to the Oyster Riot on the event corresponding to your ticket and all the wine and oysters you can handle. There will also be some passed hors d'oeuvres and beer available.

What is the menu?
Oysters, oysters and more oysters. There are about 20 oysters from both coasts, shucked to order (last year over 75,000 oysters were sucked down in two days). While there are a few other items such Farmhouse cheese, shrimp, and some hot oyster hors d'oeuvres, this is an event for oyster lovers.

What wines will be served?
We don't know yet. The Riot is the celebration of the winners of the International Wines for Oysters Competition. During the Competition, wines entered from all over the world will be sampled with raw oysters by a notable panel of judges made up of wine and oyster lovers from the fields of politics, medicine, journalism, and food. Each year a field up to 400 wines is narrowed through several rounds of blind tastings, with the top 10 gold medal winners being announced and poured at The Riot. To get an idea of the wines that typically perform well in the Competition, check out previous winners by looking at the past Wine Competition Results.

Is there a bar open to the guests at the Oyster Riot?
No, there is only wine to be enjoyed. No other liquor will be served or available within the Oyster Riot.

What band will be playing the Oyster Riot this year?
For both the Matinee and the Night sessions, the world-renowned New Orleans Suspects will perform their “Tribal Gold” show and the Baltimore- area Crawdaddies will be kicking off the fun.

What should I wear?
Over the years Rioters have been seen in everything from tuxedos to silk pajamas to cocktail dresses to designer jeans and stilettos. While we still expect to see a lot of "originality," this year's outdoor venue leans a bit more casual.

Is there seating?
Not really. While there are several small cocktail tables throughout the space, the Riot is a standing room only party. Besides, you'll be too busy sucking down oysters and dancing to sit.

What if there is bad weather?
The event is rain or shine. Of course, we're hoping for shine! We're really excited about the Bullpen. One of the reasons that we've moved the Riot to October is the hope for warmer weather.

Can I buy tickets at the door?
Nope -- it'll be sold out. We only sell a limited amount of tickets for each event, and when they're gone, they're gone.

Are tickets refundable?
No. Does Springsteen refund your tickets when your babysitter cancels at the last minute? Same rules apply at The Riot. Your tickets are transferable. See ticket info above.

Do I have to be 21 years old to attend?
Yes, due to the nature of the event, no one under 21 years of age will be admitted to the Oyster Riot.

Which session is better?
Half say The Matinee and half say The Evening!

Is there parking?
There are public garages all around The Bullpen at Nats Park. However, returning Rioters will recommend that you use metro Navy Yard-Ballpark Metrorail station on the Green Line (entrance is right across the street) or stay at one of the great hotels around the stadium (will add hotels later). Old Ebbitt Grill encourages safety and asks that you do not drink and drive.
