DC, VA, and MD Restaurants and Hospitality Businesses Support Hurricane Harvey Relief Efforts

As an association that represents restaurants across the Washington, DC metropolitan region, we understand the devastating impact an event like Hurricane Harvey can have on small businesses. RAMW and its membership recognize the need for immediate and ongoing support of the business community and its employees in Southeast Texas. Our local industry is coming together in solidarity with friends and colleagues there, and RAMW members and the larger hospitality industry are answering the call to help in a number of ways:

Jeff & Barbara Black will match dollar for dollar donations up to $100,000 USD made by guests at all area Black Restaurant Group Restaurants:

From Thursday August 31 through Thursday September 14 2017, restaurant guests will be able to make donations directly on their check to be matched by Black's Family Foundation. If goal is not reached, the drive will continue.  Online donations to relief efforts via Black Family Foundation can be made here: - (you do not have to visit any restaurant to donate and have your donation matched)

  • Pearl Dive Oyster Palace, Black Jack, Tilt Side Bar, BlackSalt, Black’s Bar and Kitchen, Black Market Bistro, Republic and Addie’s Restaurant - The Black Family Foundation will match dollar for dollar donations up to $100,000 USD made by guests to aid #HarveyRelief from 8/31 - 9/14 at all restaurant locations.

More than 10 large DC area restaurant groups (so far) are planning to host and promote “DC Dines Out for Houston” this Thursday, August 31, 2017 (TOMORROW) during all meals served at the participating restaurants.

Join industry leaders like Andy Shallal of Busboys and Poets, José Andrés and Think Food Group, Michael Babin of Neighborhood Restaurant Group, and many many more. The plan is for restaurant groups, or individual locations, to choose a percentage of proceeds between 5% and 1% that they will pledge to give to a Harvey relief fund or organization. Restaurant groups will choose on their own which fund to give the proceeds to, or they can choose from one of the options below.

How to join this effort:
Businesses looking to join this effort should email as soon as possible as Thursday is less than 24 hours away and we want to start promoting your efforts to the public ASAP. Email and let us know that you would like to be part of “DC Dines Out for Houston”.  You do not have to publicly announce the percentage you are pledging to give, but you can if you prefer. If you are part of a restaurant group, please let us know which individual restaurants are signing on to the effort.

Getting the word out:
RAMW will promote “DC Dines Out for Houston” via email marketing to our consumers list, on our website, via social media, and to media outlets. Participating restaurants and businesses should promote using the hashtags #DINEOUT4HOUSTON and #HARVEYRELIEF. RAMW will repost as much social media as possible.

Saturday, September 2, 2017 - "DC Food and Beverage Give to Harvey Relief":

The rain hasn’t stopped falling over southeast Texas, but relief efforts are already well on the way from every corner of the country. It’s obvious from the horrific images of devastation all across Houston and the Gulf Coast, this storm will require help from all of us. While no amount of money is enough to replace lost loved ones or repair the mental and emotional damage left in Hurricane Harvey’s wake, any amount of money is enough to begin to help rebuild.

This Saturday, September 2nd, members of DC’s food and beverage community are banding together for a city-wide fundraiser in support of the American Red Cross’ relief efforts. Organizers from DC Brau and Boundary Stone, among others, are reaching out to partners in the community to join them. Donate directly by visiting the Crowdrise page at
