Position Characteristics:
A highly skilled and talented Sommelier is a career professional who possesses the desire to contribute to the cultivation, development and success of the company’s wine program. The Sommelier must have a great personality and be able to communicate with team members and guests that might share different levels of wine knowledge. The Sommelier must be well versed in professional communication with the aptitude to exercise discretion. The Sommelier shall have an engaging personality and be very much “hands on” with the ability to multitask, be sales proactive and understanding of teamwork and the importance of developing and maintaining strong, positive relationships with guests.

Essential Job Functions (including but not limited to):
- Responsible for ordering, receiving, inventory, organizing and selling wine for all departments.
- Oversee all wine procurement and cost management.
- Act as a liaison with all wine vendors, negotiate prices and conduct wine tastings.
- Assist team members and guests during the service with wine recommendations and selection for perfect wine pairing with guests’ meal, decanting of the wine and wine service.
- Develop a training program for all team members to improve their knowledge of wine tasting and wine service.
- Monitor marketplace in general and make recommendations and changes accordingly.
- Share restaurant closing duties with other managers.
- Provide supervision and leadership to the front-of-the-house staff, including assigning work tasks, training and problem solving for business development, retention and revenue growth.
- Cultivate strong client relationships/partnerships, ensuring client satisfaction.
- Act as a positive “Ambassador” of the brand in the community and at industry related events.
- Be present at a variety of restaurant and membership development events to meet and greet the members, ensuring personal encounters and promotion of the brand.
- Complete other appropriate work assignments as requested by the General Manager and Director of Operations.

- Level 1 or 2 Sommelier certified.
- ABRA certified.
- Strong knowledge of food and beverage pairings.
- Three or more years of experience as a Sommelier, Wine Steward, or in a Hospitality role.
- Previous knowledge, skills and ability serving, supervising and training in a fine dining environment.
- Solid understanding of pricing, budgets, and cost control.
- Operation and programming knowledge of a Point-of-Sales system.
- Strong computer skills.
- Ability to work long hours, weekends and holidays.
- Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills; professional demeanor and appearance at all times.

Compensation Details:

$65,000 - $80,000 base salary plus commission based on experience
