Like many Washington retail corridors, Clarendon has an identity that’s been shaped in phases, defined and redefined by the people who live there and the people who leave there.

Greg Cahill and Peter Pflug, the men behind some of the area’s hottest spots, remember a time not too long ago when the Arlington neighborhood was a sea of Vietnamese restaurants and grocery stores, propped up by the 3,000-plus Vietnamese refugees who arrived in the area after the war.
