Member Engagement Internship

Restaurant Association Metropolitan Washington (RAMW) is a dynamic, member-driven and impactful organization committed to promoting and sustaining the growth and development of the local restaurant industry while providing our members legislative and regulatory representation, marketing and small business support, programming, and events. 

RAMW offers spring, summer, and fall internship opportunities and is currently seeking a motivated and talented Member Engagement Intern to join our team. The successful candidate will play a critical role in ensuring that our members receive exceptional support and resources and contribute to the development of programming to expand and strengthen the organization’s value proposition to members. This internship provides a unique opportunity for individuals interested in gaining hands-on experience in membership management in a member-based organization, including: 

  1. Training in a variety of member and stakeholder communications, including membership collateral,  in-person meetings, and online presentations. 
  2. Experience in providing positive and enriching professional development programming for members. 
  3. Opportunities to build the intern’s professional network. 

Key Responsibilities

Working closely with the Managing Director, major responsibilities of the Member Services Intern include: 

  1. Member Engagement: Interacting with members through various channels, including email, phone, and online platforms, to address inquiries and provide information about membership benefits.
  2. Database Management: Assisting in maintaining accurate and up-to-date member records in the database, ensuring data integrity and confidentiality.
  3. Communication: Drafting and editing member communications, including newsletters, announcements, and other materials to keep members informed about upcoming events, resources, and opportunities.
  4. Event and Meeting Support: Collaborating with the team to provide logistical support for member-related events, including registration, attendee management, and post-event follow-up.
  5. Member Surveys: Assisting in the development and analysis of member satisfaction surveys to gather feedback and identify areas for improvement. 

Qualifications

  1. Undergraduate or graduate student with a strong interest in nonprofit and association management. Interest in or knowledge of the local food, beverage, and hospitality industry is a plus.
  2. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. 
  3. Careful attention to detail and proofreading skills.
  4. Ability to problem solve and multitask.
  5. Ability to work both independently and as part of a team. 
  6. Self-motivated with strong time management skills and willingness to ask questions as necessary. 
  7. Strong service orientation.
  8. Computer competencies, including conducting online research and experience with G Suite tools Drive, Docs, Sheets, and Slides.
