RAMW Government Affairs Research Internship - Now Accepting Applications

Restaurant Association Metropolitan Washington (RAMW) is a dynamic, member-driven and impactful organization committed to promoting and sustaining the growth and development of the local restaurant industry while providing our members legislative and regulatory representation, marketing and small business support, programming, and events. 

RAMW offers spring, summer, and fall internship opportunities and is currently seeking a motivated and talented Government Affairs Research Intern to join our team. The successful candidate will play a central role in advancing our mission by conducting innovative research, generating insights, and making significant contributions to our public policy and advocacy work. This internship provides a unique opportunity for individuals interested in gaining hands-on experience in the field of public policy research, including: 

  • Practical experience working with various data sources, including quantitative research, qualitative studies, and economic data.
  • Training and experience in professional research and reporting. 
  • Opportunities to build the intern’s professional network. 

Key Responsibilities

Working closely with the Vice President of Government Affairs, major responsibilities of the Government Affairs Research Intern include: 

  • Data Collection and Analysis: Assisting in the collection, organization, and analysis of research data using a variety of methodologies, tools, and software.
  • Policy Review: Conducting comprehensive policy reviews to inform the development of research projects, including most recent developments in related fields. 
  • Report Writing: Contributing to the development of research reports, policy briefs, and other publications, summarizing findings and providing actionable insights.
  • Collaboration: Working collaboratively with team members to contribute to interdisciplinary research projects and share insights across the organization and industry.
  • Project Coordination: Assisting in the coordination of research projects, including managing timelines, communicating with stakeholders, and ensuring the smooth execution of research activities.
  • Presentation: Preparing and delivering presentations to internal teams, summarizing research findings and recommendations.

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate or graduate student with a strong interest in interdisciplinary research techniques and methodologies. Interest in or knowledge of local food, beverage, and hospitality industry a plus.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. 
  • Careful attention to detail and proofreading skills.
  • Ability to problem solve and multitask.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team. 
  • Self-motivated with strong time management skills and willingness to ask questions as necessary. 
  • Strong service orientation.
  • Computer competencies, including conducting online research and experience with G Suite tools Drive, Docs, Sheets, and Slides.
