Reminder: DDOT Lifts Evening Parking Time Limits

(Washington, D.C.) The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) is reminding motorists that it has lifted the evening time limits at most parking meters in the city. DDOT would also like to clarify the changes to clear up any confusion about how they will impact drivers.
Earlier this year, DDOT extended the hours of enforcement for parking meters to 10 pm in the city’s busiest commercial districts where on-street parking is often scarce. These “premium demand zones” include:
· Adams Morgan
· Georgetown Historic District
· Penn Quarter/Chinatown
· U Street, NW Corridor
· Downtown Central Business District
· Maine and Water Streets, SW
· The National Mall
· Wisconsin Avenue, NW (from Van Ness Street to Western Avenue)
Now, motorists can park for as long as they like after 6:30 pm in the premium demand zones, although they will still have to pay to park. Also, the meters in these areas have been updated to accept payments for longer periods of time. For example: after 6:30 pm, if you plan to stay for 3 hours, you can pay for 3 hours of on-street parking without having to return to your car to put more money in the meter.
Please note: the Ward 6 and Columbia Heights Performance Parking Pilot zones are exempt from the above changes. In those areas there is no change in the hours of enforcement or parking time limits.
