DC JAZZ FESTIVAL ANNOUNCES LINEUP FOR JAZZ IN THE ‘HOODS PRESENTED BY EVENTS DC

May 24, 2018

It’s a Jazz Takeover as Neighborhood Venues Host Performances Citywide

The DC Jazz Festival (DCJF) is pleased to announce the schedule for Jazz in the ‘Hoods Presented by Events DC, a vital component of the DC JazzFest presented by Events DC (June 8-17). Spotlighting the District as a vibrant cultural capital, Jazz in the ‘Hoods brings jazz to all four quadrants and eight wards of the nation’s capital, with performances at more than 20+ neighborhood venues.

“DC’s rich and diverse music history takes center stage each year at the DC JazzFest presented by Events DC and we are proud to continue our partnership in this regional and cultural celebration. In its 9th year, residents and visitors alike can experience some of the best jazz music in all corners of our city,” said Gregory A. O’Dell, president and chief executive officer of Events DC. “Our continued involvement with the DC Jazz Festival is just another example of driving economic activity through local programming and delivering cultural enrichment for this vibrant city we call home.”

Jazz in the ‘Hoods represents an exciting DC JazzFest partnership with DC clubs, restaurants, hotels, museums, parks, campuses and more in celebration of jazz in our nation’s capital.

For the 9th straight year, Jazz in the ‘Hoods will include the CapitalBop Jazz Loft Series. One of DC JazzFest’s signature partnerships, CapitalBop presents vibrant, intriguingly edgy, original expressions by cutting-edge musicians in alternative venues, as well as DC-based musicians grounded in the jazz tradition and beyond.

Returning for its 7th year, the East River Jazz Series presents free and affordably-priced jazz performances and programs to thousands of residents east of the Anacostia River. The East River Jazz Series presents the music in neighborhoods not otherwise served by live jazz performances, and includes many free performances.

With a variety of free and ticketed performances in more than 20+ neighborhoods, including Adams Morgan, Anacostia, Capitol Hill, Chinatown, Downtown, Dupont Circle, Foggy Bottom, Georgetown, Capitol Riverfront, Mount Pleasant, Kenilworth and Eastland Gardens, the H Street Corridor, Southeast, Southwest, Takoma Park, Trinidad, Ivy City, the U Street Corridor and Van Ness, Jazz in the ‘Hoods annually attracts vibrant music to audiences of thousands of music enthusiasts.

The University of the District of Columbia is once again partnering with DCJF on music and education programs, as part of its ongoing Jazz Alive series. The Kennedy Center’s Millennium Stage will host the It’s a Family Affair Series, five free concerts highlighting the tradition of the jazz family – including spouses and sibling jazz musicians on the DC scene. Transparent Productions, the DC area’s purveyor of exceptional performances, will once again bring their unique cutting edge, no-compromise flavor to the DC JazzFest.

In addition to CapitalBop and East River Jazz, other Jazz in the ‘Hoods partners include Twins Jazz, Sixth & I, Kennedy Center Millennium Stage, Mr. Henry’s, Atlas Performing Arts Center, the National Gallery of Art Sculpture Garden, the National Museum of American History, Eighteenth Street Lounge,

The Grill From Ipanema, Pearl Street Warehouse, Union Stage, Hamilton Live, City Winery, JoJo’s Restaurant and Bar, The Brixton, DC’s oldest continuing jazz club Blues Alley, and many more.
