Nat'l Restaurant Assoication Public Policy Brief - Health Care Reform
The National Restaurant Associationsupports market-driven health-care reforms that lead to greater accessto affordable, quality health care for American businesses, theiremployees and others.With 13 million employees, restaurants are the nation’s No. 2private-sector employer. The U.S. restaurant industry is integral tothe nation’s health-care debate and the National Restaurant Associationis a leading voice for market-based reforms. Finding ways to providemeaningful health care for restaurant employees is essential to ourindustry’s and our nation’s future.
NRA is currently supporting bipartisan legislation known as the SHOP Act (S. 979). It was reintroduced on May 5, 2009 by Senators Dick Durbin (D-IL),Blanche Lincoln (D-AR) and Olympia Snowe (R-ME). Rep. Ron Kind (D-WI)is the leader for the House version that we anticipate will bereintroduced soon. Both bills focus on businesses under 100 employees,using tax credits and purchasing pools to broaden coverage and keeprates competitive and stable for small group purchasers.
